hu-lah! i omitted dexter's scores, because he didn't send `em in on time. sorry dex. also, zam and eurakarte were never actually judges, i just put them on the page to make them feel important. there you go. scores/comments go in this order: me, knightt, skullie, tseng. FIRST PLACE! grinch & leamas (welcome to seasons) score: 8.9 7.5 8.5 9 = 8.47 blue: this was really fun. i enjoyed it. a bit buggy, but that's expected. i feel happy-happy. knightt: Man... I really love the art and the gameplay, but it's just so ridiculously repetitive... however, it was still very enjoyable to play. Leamas is one of the best ZZT programmers around (and my favorite, other than perhaps Mr. Tseng McQueen), and it looks like this Grinch person knows what he's doing, as well... skullie: The opening to this made me think the game was gonna suck, but it wound up being one of the best I played. Truly neat. tseng: Now THIS is a really fucking neat game. I like the whole concept of mission objectives in a 24HoZZT game. It makes me feel all giddy and stuff, or something like that. There's a few bugs here and there in the game, but nothing to get all pissed about(well, okay, except for the bear thing in day 6. GOD, DID THAT EVER ANNOY ME.). All in all, though, it's a good neat twist on the inventory game thingie. SECOND PLACE! Chuck (Seasons of Love) score: 7.5 10 6.5 8.5 = 8.12 blue: the plot tried to be everywhere at once, and as a result, went nowhere. still, not half bad. knightt: ... Holy crap, dude. The Nickelback/Blazer/Weed jokes ROCK, and the storyline's incredible, for 24 hours... much better than your crazy little Los Refritos series, young man, as well as your old 2nd Place 24HoZZT game. Hopefully, this'll get first. skullie: Too long for its content. tseng: I like how Chuck makes a point that it's a season to make sure that the judges know that he's on topic. :-) Anyway, this game has *ME* in it! Sure, I'm stuck singing "How You Remind Me" with Knightt and Blazer, but that's probably because we're all poor. This game is basically a story game. You get to run around as either Joe or Rebecca and be all like "WE'RE IN LUV KTHX". The game is smartly funny and crude at the exact same time, which I like. When Chuck was discussing this game with me, he said he made the "stupidest minigame ever". It was actually not just the stupidest, but the funniest idea I've seen. I dunno, I'm probably just being biased because Chuck is my friend, but I enjoyed this immensely for a storyline game. Thus, the score I give this is justified. Or something. THIRD PLACE... theta14 (farmer man and the season control machine) score: 8 7.5 7.5 8.5 = 7.87 blue: real fun. the maze part got annoying, but all around fun. knightt: Beautiful storyline, purdy art, and OWLS!!!!!!!! It kinda gets tedious near the end, but it looks like a lot of time and effort was put into making this one... clap for Theta! Now! skullie: Hey, this was actually pretty good! tseng: This is a neat game. Then again, I have a weakness for Batman sound effects and superheroes, so blah. Theta is obviously trying to please me, since it has FARMER MAN, and we all know that Tseng lives in Tennessee! He was also trying to please Knightt, since it has *OWL MAN* as the villian! Anyway, the game plays rather neatly, and it has a minigame that WORKS! SHOCK! ...oh wait, Chuck's minigame worked, too. Oh well. The only thing I didn't like was the anti-climatic ending, but oh well. 4th: lieshashima & la roche (tempus domus) score: 7.6 7 7 6.5 = 7.02 blue: pretty good. one major bug, but the groovy atmosphere and puzzles made up for it. plot was underdeveloped. knightt: As usual, excellent art from these two... the gameplay's also nice, but at the same time, not exactly anything new... definitely better than your average ZZT game, though, so a 7's a fitting score. skullie: I liked this game's setup, but a couple of the solutions were illogical and the story was never really expanded on. tseng: Another inventory game with a silly title. FUN! Anyway, Iies and Roche do a good job here. For one, I liked the title screen, it was shiny. The puzzles were kind of annoying, and they resort to an INVISIBLE MAZE as a puzzle. I much prefered Iies's last 24HoZZT entry, although, in retrospect, I *did* like it better than Roche's last 24HoZZT entry. ...I need to stop comparing shit to that last 24HoZZT. 5th (TIE!): nonexistent (season perfectly) score: 7 7 6.5 7.5 = 7 blue: very interesting use of the topic. unfortunately, i couldn't figure out how to get past the first few boards. buggy? knightt: The surprise entry of the day. The visuals are good enough for a 24HoZZT game, but most importantly, it's different, yet fun at the same time... if you want to know how, you'll bother to play it. nonexistent seems like a lovable (not meant in an obscene way) underdog, here. skullie: This game is kind of like killing jewish people. tseng: THE LORD OF CHERRY PIES. There. Had to get that out of the way first. This game is actually pretty neat, since it deals with a different type of season and whatnot. Big points for that! Anyway, uh, there isn't much to say, outside of the total amusement I had in reading Jason's mock French accent. Ze Frenchie is most amused, zese t'ings are fun. Or not. 5th (TIE!): rigel7 (?) score: 7 6.5 6.5 8 = 7 blue: it was okay. nothing great. lots of continuity problems but not totally bad. knightt: Nice graphics and apostrophe joke, but other than that... generic, as said. skullie: THIS GAME IS FRESH LIKE FO FU FLEM! tseng: Smiley, whom I'm used to seeing serious things from in 24HoZZT entries, does something completely different and makes up the Obligitory Fucked Up Entry of the 24HoZZT. The RPG engine wasn't as terribly buggy as he said it was in the game(I had the same problem in Mega Job. TRUST ME.), so I'm not gonna kill the score based off of that. Plus, Smiley has learned from his last 24HoZZT entry(and my bitching about the apostrophes) and MADE A JOKE INVOLVING APOSTROPHES! Thank you, Smiley, your check is in the mail. :-) Anyway, there's a few bugs that keep me from liking the game more, like the fact that most of the big bad boss's cave links to Lab's SNACK toolkit, but hey, it's a neat game. I laughed. 7th: rob p (so you think that makes you a better person?) score: 7.5 5.5 7 7.5 = 6.87 blue: how dare you! i have a monopoly on the inventory engine game genre! uhm... bugs destroyed what should have been a really good, atmospheric game. ptthyay. knightt: After I looked through the editor, I started playing the game, and thought "8 or 9?"... then I got off the first board. Too many twisting corners, and so little action... I couldn't give a higher score than a 5.5 and be honest about it. Rob's become one of my favorite programmers, and if he keeps on making stuff, will become one of the community's favorites as well, however. skullie: JIGGA WHAT? tseng: LOLOLZ KARRDE IS SO SECKSY. Er, anyway... this game is yet another inventory game, and also the only one that uses the ?+i system. Unfortunately, `ol Robby P forgot to set a flag in one of the objects! The little children all scream "Oh no!". Outside of that, the ice cave puzzle was nifty and fun to play with, and the game was fine aside from the bug. Thus, I give it this score! 8th: Starchaser (Vision of Fate) score: 6.3 7 6 7 = 6.57 blue: bugs prevented me from enjoying this one. nice graphics, tho. knightt: Very nice graphics (especially the winter area) and somewhat challenging... my only major complaints are that the axes are too common, and while it's a great adventure game, it seems to be lacking personality somehow... maybe a few more boards or characters would've helped. Otherwise, applause-worthy. skullie: Though the game featured a fairly boring back-and-forth adventure, the writing is fairly well crafted and the graphics are nice. tseng: You know, this is a really neat game. I think Starchaser learned an all-important fact: INVENTORY GAMES GET YOU PLACES. The graphics are good and the puzzles are somewhat challenging(at least, for me, since I'm frickin' retarded). I do have the beef of this game being so flag-heavy. Starchaser could've spent the time to block the passages until you get the essences necessary. But all-in-all, a good game that I enjoyed. 9th: lynx (spirit season) score: 5.6 8 6.5 5.5 = 6.4 blue: shoddy and underdeveloped. just didn't make much sense. knightt: Ahhh... entertainingly random. Beautiful graphics, and the storyline is... well, you have to play it for yourself, I 'spose. Lynx is one of the th' newer programmers (at least I think he's one) that show that the future of ZZT is in good hands, mixing old-fashioned ZZT graphics with a style of play that is much comparable to WiL, n' stuff. I wish I could make games as varying-yet-entertaining as this guy... skullie: Was fairly above average, and uhh.. That's it. tseng: I really have a few things to object to as far as this game goes. First of all, Lynx, please learn how to use /i in front of your looping commands, so I don't get popup windows every single time I make contact with an enemy I'm beating the fuck out of. Secondly, it seems as though all of the flags are out of place, as even though I've defeated the spirit of fall, the other two characters still talk to me normally. The whole game is just pointless and although it's on topic and the graphics are good, I can't go any higher than what I've given it. 10th: GameMstr1 (Gemstone Season) score: 6.4 6 7 5.5 = 6.22 blue: nice concept destroyed by bugs; one flag-name bug made the game unbeatable, i believe. that makes me sad sad. knightt: The status effects and storyline are quite nice, but otherwise, the game has little pizazz... it's not bad, but you've done better in the past. skullie: Was awesome for a generic fantasy game, but the snake's RPG battle broke every time I played it, so I took a bit of points off. tseng: Okay, GameMstr1, I appreciate your will to make a game that doesn't suck or anything so that you can kill the anti-KevEdit/ZZTAE rule, but please, make sure your game isn't bugged to hell. Now, where do I begin? Okay. The orcs in the minisized room are bugged, the RPG battle is MAJORLY bugged, and the game actually gave me a runtime error. The only reason why your score wasn't lower than I put it at was because the graphics were actually quite nice and the game played well up until the bugs started to hit me, one by one. Better luck next time. 11th: nmzmaster (it's all about money) score: 5.6 7 6 6 = 6.15 blue: only marginally better than lotos's game. that runtime thing = fuck you, nmzmaster. knightt: POT!!!!!!!! Somewhat bland and empty, but fun enough to earn a 7... most likely won't win the competition, but, hey, with only 14 entries, it's definitely one of the better games. skullie: i kinda liked it! tseng: I HATE YOU FOR THE RUNTIME ERROR SURPRISE SHIT YOU PULLED AND GOD DAMMIT I'M GONNA FUCKING KICK YOUR ASS ALL OVER THE PLACE UNTIL YOU'RE BLACK AND BLUE AND I STOPP MAKING LONG DRAWN OUT RUN-ON SENTENCES SUCH AS THIS, YOU FUCKING SHIT ASS PRICK BITCH MOTHERFUCKING CUNT BITCH FUCK ASS GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKING ASSHOLE!!!! The game was fine, otherwise! :-D 12th: Crazy_Panda (The Adventures of FirePig) score: 5.5 4 4.5 4 = 4.5 blue: board linkage errors. nothing really special or on-topic. mediocre. knightt: The 4 points are all for the... very interesting humor that lays within. The graphics are a little below average quality and the game gets somewhat tedious, however... good for a first try. skullie: The opening scene made me think I was going to be in for a really funny game, but it just turned out to be a deceitful introduction. tseng: Let's see... where do I begin on this one? The pictures of the characters were pretty, but at the same time, I wonder exactly what in the hell you're supposed to do. See, the passages are all CARAZY and confuse me greatly, and then you're supposed to "step to the right" to enter the battle with the great big enemy guy, but it doesn't do anything. So I edit the game and go over to that spot I'm supposed to go to, and low and behold, I'm treated to a boss battle that reminded me greatly of Teen Priest 2's battle in KANADA. I have no idea what this had to do with seasons, but oh well. 13th: davydd (solstice) score: 5.5 4 5.5 5.5 = 4 blue: boring, repetetive. this really isn't that good. or good at all. knightt: Yawn... nice try for a first time, though. You're most likely one of those programmers who'll improve very much in the future, judging by your narration and gameplay methods. skullie: A good effort. tseng: This is an okay, if confusing game. The author didn't seem to figure out if the game was going to be serious or not, and on top of that, the author isn't clear on where the player has to go at times. Outside of that, it was okay, but nothing spectacular or anything. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY! AH! DEAD LAST! 14th: daemon_lotos (the magic cabin) score: 3 3 3 2.5 = 2.87 blue: boo. hiss. not worth the half hour it took to make. knightt: Who loves yah, baby? skullie: I DON'T BUY THIS "30 MINUTE" CRAP FOR A SECOND. tseng: This game does not justify me writing a paragraph about it. honorable mention: Crankgod keep reachin' for that rainbow, suh!
