Finally.. the results for Spring 24hoZZT 2002. On a sad note, we have decided to disqualify Ultima's entry due to cheating. The topic was "betrayal" and here are the final ranks: Order of Judges: Chuck, Fishfood, Grinch, Herc, Leamas, Skullie FIRST Feldspar: "The Betrayed" Scores: 6 7.8 8 8.3 7.5 8 (7.6) Chuck: uhh... on-topic? Fishfood: Haha! Funny, Long, a good mix of gameplay and cinema... Everthing a good game needs. Blue has a habit of making kickass 24hoZZT games, and this is no exception. He has done better in the past, but hey, LOVE the credits :P I'm hoping this doesn't win so we can let someone ELSE have a go at hosting, but It's the best fucking game by a LONG way. Grinch: This game is a good example of how a game should be. Feldspar has done a good job in attracting the player's attention with his kludtzy, slapstick humour in his introduction. We all have our bad days. :) Not much gameplay, though. Herc: Excellent piece of story-telling. Not as much in the way of gameplay as we usually come to expect from zzblue/feldspar, but it was definately good enough. Next time, try to use either lower-case everywhere and don't use it all. :P Leamas: Heh, makes you think if the bitch didn't break up with the main character, she'd probably have lived longer. Fun, story was creative and well done on the use of the topic! Yay! Extra leamas bonus point for you. Skullie: Good, but SHIZZORT SECOND Wil: "Stranded- An ED's Tale" Scores: 6 4.8 8.5 8.2 8.0 8 (7.3) Chuck: good; on topic? Fishfood: I'm really unsure as to how Wil made this game big in the time allowed, but hey. As usual with Wil, it's easy to get tricked into thinking his games are amazing because of his fucking brilliant graphics, but in the endm it's nothing special Gameplay wise. Still, with graphics alone, I'd give it a higher score than half the other contestants. Grinch: Wil did a nice job on this game and made it quite interesting, though I don't know whether it would have been AS interesting if I wasn't in the game. It doesn't seem possible that he could have done everything he did in 24 hours, but then again, he might have just hit it lucky. I really enjoyed the game along with the scenario he worked with. Good job! Herc: Yes! I liked this a lot! Pretty innovative idea and some pretty enjoyable puzzles. Lengthy, graphical and funny. And hey, Herc got an alien WIMMENZ. :D Leamas: Did you complete this in one day? Probably not, but I loved it. It was fun, had nice graphics, and was entertaining. And I will say, I love games with me in it! Even if I'm a dumb potato. :) Skullie: I personally thought this game was great, EVEN THOUGH I WAS USELESS :( and the engines were buggy. Otherwise I would have probably given this a 9. THIRD Oof: "Sides" Scores: 6 6.4 7.2 7.0 7.0 8 (6.9) Chuck: nice. Fishfood: Predictable...but not as cliche as I expected when I saw the first few screens. Most of all, it was enjoyable and quite long. Not a huge RPG fan but this one does stick out..Oof seems to be the product of some freaky cloning accident involving knightt and herc. Unfortunately the graphics get worse (Another case of Bad Time management it seems. But overall, yeah. Grinch: This game was fun, though predictable. Sorry to hear about that cinema erasing on you.. should have used ZZTAE I guess. :} Herc: Uhh.. someone please explain what this was about... I'm confused. Still, a pretty nice entry. Leamas: Good game! The graphics seemed to get worse as the game went on, but overall I liked it. Skullie: I'VE GOT CAR TROUBLES 4th Theta14: "Hans und Martin" Scores: 6 6 7.8 8.0 6 7 (6.8) Chuck: uh... sure Fishfood: Love the storyline, Like the graphics.. But there's something missing here. This is the lowest score I've ever given one of your games, and hopefully it will remain that way. Of course, thats comparing you with yourself... Compared with the others, you could win this. Grinch: Watering the streets?! Okey! Rid the world of the topic betrayal?! Mm-hmm! Searching the world for judges?! Now that's something! ;) Theta14 has done an impressive job in making a game with an assortment of engines. I am always a sucker for origionality. The engines were a bit tough, though. Herc: Yes, yes! Good stuff here! Neat programming and some funny jokes. It's quite long for a 24hoz entry, too. HEY, they hurt me! :O Leamas: I like being in games... but this one wasn't overly fun. Those engines annoyed me! Skullie: this game reminds me of exactly how much I hate engines! also 4th MasterTMC: "Double Agent" Scores: 5.5 6.1 8.3 6.3 7.4 7 (6.8) Chuck: good, stayed on topic; still, very glitchy. Fishfood: Uhh, there's a #player command now? Other than that... brilliant! Origional, Funny, great play on the topic. Generic but above average graphics and two endings. I like. Grinch: Cool plot.. you can work for both sides. There were a few bugs and too many #endgames, but other than that, I really enjoyed it. It's simple, yet amusing, and above all, you don't have to walk long distances. :) Herc: Nice game, but I found it a bit boring. Still, not bad. Leamas: I liked it! A few errors that annoyed me, but fun fun fun! Graphics are nice, and two story endings! I'm in heaven! Skullie: I DO DECLARE I DID LIKE THIS GAME 5th Kaddar: "Mind Scientist" Scores: 4 4.5 7.7 6.9 8.5 8 (6.6) Chuck: uh, what now? Fishfood: Not bad.. Didn't like the plot, but there was some gameplay there..Mildly amusing in parts. The exterior graphics have a very unique style! You're heading towards something really good, Kaddar. You've just got a while to go yet. Grinch: me like Herc: Kaddar's a promising ZZTer, as we've seen from Slime Line. Nice entry. Leamas: VERY FUN! Kaddar is impressing quite fast. I don't know about the other judges, but this was the best entry. The button pushing seemed to never end, but maybe you ARE supposed to go past 200 score... FUN FUN FUN! Skullie: HEY WOW. I LOVE YOU ALL SERIOUSLY. ANYONE THAT DOESN'T LIKE THIS GAME IS A FAG! FAGS! also 5th Knightt: "Imitation of Life" Scores: 6 5.1 6.7 7.7 7 7 (6.6) Chuck: good; still, on-topic? is a shaky question. Fishfood: Nice graphics, alright gameplay. Crappy plot. A knightt game about music is about as interesting to me as.. well, any of knightts other games. It just felt like the modern version of a 'Kill barney' game. Still, it's more amusing than most of knightts other games and, more importantly, the majority of the entries. Grinch: For once I really felt like a Starr. Not one for lazy endings, though. Herc: Heheheh. Burn the MTV HQ down, baaaby! Typical Knightt game, which provided some good laughs. And hey, I actually like Linkin Park. :P Leamas: /me turns off his CD player.. "You mean Linkin Park ISN'T good?!" damn, and I just wasted 5 bucks on the CD! Skullie: IT'S THE ANNUAL VISIT FROM THE MUSIC FAIRY 6th Nydark: "Dark Nyightt" Scores: 5 4.9 6.7 7.5 6.5 7 (6.3) Chuck: keep your company problems out of the 24hoz. Fishfood: Ohh! I hope other judges are old enough to take this game as what it is (A parody of Flame Games and ZZT in general). It's pretty funny - good writing and stuff, but basically it's just a generic series of action / puzzle scenes. Started off much better than it finished, but still fun. Grinch: Everyone loves true stories. On the other hand, not when they don't understand what's going on. It's not a bad game. It was fun, but after playing this, I REALLY feel new to the commune. Herc: Heheheh! A pretty amusing reality-based tale of betrayal. POWER TO C64GAMES AND FLAME GAMES, DEATH TO FF6SABIN~! :P Leamas: So... who is Nyightt supposed to be?? :P Skullie: Ung! 7th Viovis: "Pool Table" Scores: -- 4.2 5.8 6.5 6 8 (6.1) Chuck: heh heh, always the same. =) Fishfood: Sedimental was the only vio 24hoz that I found to be ANY good. This is just another superb art collection with no gameplay. Objects all seem to be odd injokes that I doubt anyone but Viovis, Dakuwan and Knightt understand. Again, though, the art is great. Grinch: I didn't quite understand what was going on.. maybe it is because I don't use IRC. I thought the art was impressive, so Viovis deserves a little credit. Oh yeah, and that joke against Canada? Unnecessary! ;) Herc: "...SPIN THE BAR STOOLS! Classic Viovis-style game which certainly didn't fail to amuse me. Not much in the area of gameplay, but it was funny and graphical in a trippy, Viovis-ish twishted kind of way. Leamas: I LOVE Viovis' ART! Always have, and probably always will. The gameplay itself lacks, and I still don't get it! :( Skullie: OH MAN THIS IS NEAT 8th Crazy_Panda: "Donkey Anus" Scores: 5 4.7 7 6.3 6 6 (5.8) Chuck: Started off good, but died quickly. Fishfood: Ooh. This was quite surprising, too. The name is pathetic, yes.. but other than that, it's a pretty good game. Looks like a case of 'Spent 23 hours doing the intro and 1 hour doing the game' - the art get progressively worse. This could best be described as snorbs game on steriods, and with some (Though not a lot) actual humour. Grinch: I thought this game was comical and fun to play. I loved how you have to find Dud. There was some really nice art too, but everything started to get really messed up at the end. Such a pity. Herc: Started out pretty promising, but after the intro and the first two boards or so, it failed to keep up with this. Could have been better. Leamas: Wow Crazy! Where did this come from?! It had it's fun and had some pretty good graphics, buuuut... it seemed to lack something. Skullie: WELL I GUESS IT WAS NEAT 9th Sneakers: "Mystery Mansion" Scores: 4 5 6.5 6.4 6.5 6 (5.7) Chuck: topic? this goes down as the first game I've ever fallen asleep while playing. learn what big empty board syndrom is. Fishfood: It's a little boring, and the plot is somewhat..well, stupid..but otherwise good! Happy graphics (Apart from the big empty rooms) and good gameplay. I hate it when newbies make good games. :\ Grinch: You are sent into a mansion to find the old man's teeth only to be betrayed by him. This may sound like a poor attempt to use the topic, and it is, but because none of the story makes sense in the first place, it works... in a way. I thought the gameplay was good, but Sneakers needed to work a little more on the storyline and on graphics. Herc: Kind of boring and way too much walking around, but certainly not bad for a first game (at least, it's the first game I've seen from Sneakers). Leamas: Moral of the game: Don't go into big scary mansions and help some guy find his teeth; for you are certain to enter BIG rooms, get attacked by carrots and be BETRAYED. Skullie: THIS GUY IS GREAT. but the rooms were to big and took a while to travel through. I LIKED IT THOUGH 10th Snorb: "Mistrust" Scores: 6 3 7.5 7 4.5 5 (5.5) Chuck: good - it was mostly on topic; there was a huge board error. Fishfood: I'm unsure in parts as to if this was a parody of RPGs in general, or just a really bad game. Funny and entertaining as a night spent reading the RPG thread; this game DOES have good art in the majority of places, and it's more than I have thought snorb capable of. Maybe in a few years he'll be good, or something. Oh, and there was a crappy bug as well. Grinch: Wow! What can I say, this game has potential. The beginning of the game was really good, but then it started to get really lousy. There were a couple of bugs, but other than that, this game really caught my attention and I definately encourage Snorb to finish this game. Herc: Started out a seemingly cool RPG, but it went downwards after a few boards. I guess Snorby ran out of time. The CGA man named "Arne" gives this entry bonus points, though! :P Leamas: You would have gotten a higher score, but you are minus 250 pts! :( Skullie: I DON'T GET IT 11th Dsone: "The Shoe Saga" Scores: 4 4.6 5.8 5 5.5 6 (5.2) Chuck: what the fuck? Fishfood: Two things scared me about this game. The first are the graphics which are MUCH better than I thought Dsone was capable of, and the second was that it was funny. In parts. I probably detect some in-jokes here. Bad points? No gameplay. At all. And it's way too short. Oh, and I'm not sure if you're allowed to use boards you've already made in the 24hozzt WHATEVER, but as you said to 'Not to regard this board' while judging, I'm going to leave that to the big guys. Grinch: Two words.. Huh?!?! That maybe didn't make sense, but neither did this game. I thought the shoe scene in the begining of the game was a classic, but other than that, I was completely lost. :( Credit goes for the neato graphics. Herc: Some nice graphics, but other than that, there wasn't much here. Leamas: And this is why you don't throw your shoe around buildings! It's inevitable that your shoe will land on the roof! Skullie: GOOD ART, and game 12th Dr. Dos: "Betrayal of Love" Scores: 2.5 4 6 5.5 5.5 6 (4.9) Chuck: what the hell am I supposed to do? Fishfood: I can see DOS being something in the future, despite his rocky start (Wtf kind of nick IS that, anyway?). However, he won't become much with this game. The ending was awful and the empty space made me feel more like a Walking simulator than a real game. A little more compact next time? Grinch: This game needed a little more storyline and it involved too much walking and inspecting. Nice attempt. Herc: Better than his previous 24hoz entries, but I found it rather boring. Leamas: Nothing overly exciting. The rooms are quite bare and there is no interesting story. AND who puts disks in trees?! Skullie: like "MYSTERY MANSION" BUT MORE UNGOOD 13th Aetsch: "B'Tray" Scores: 3 2.3 2.5 4 4 5 (3.5) Chuck: no entry... but nice gfx. :D Fishfood: Good art.. But it's not and art competition. Biggest dissapointment of the contest. Grinch: Cute. Herc: A shame aetsch couldn't finish this entry. As we've seen before, great art and music, but otherwise unfinished. :\ Leamas: Aww.. I was expecting something good! :( Skullie: GRAPHICAL 14th (last) Mono: "OPERATION: Corporation" Scores: 4 1.8 3 4.5 3.5 2 (3.1) Chuck: is this the mono we used to know -.- Fishfood: Uhm, yeah, so... Major bugs and the like. No. Grinch: Great art! But that's it. Oh, and who would have thought to knock over the can?! I did it by accident. Herc: Nifty title screen... and it could've been pretty sweet if it was longer and not so rushed. Damn you Brandon Bowers. ;P Leamas: Umm... I liked the title screen, and the flushing toilet. HAHAHA............... ... Skullie: YOUR BARREL HAS BUSTED! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA DIE HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA UnG! I guess it is here where we would like to say our farewells and to thank everyone who submitted and to thank the judges for taking the time to.. well.. judge. :) We would also like to thank Zandor 12 & Bigman for the entry (Betra), which was accidently sent to the wrong address and was disqualified. It's a crazy little game and is worth playing if you love pointless humour.
